McCanns Fitzgerald
As my second work experience, I went to a law firm called McCann Fitzgerald. I was so delighted and excited to work in a law firm, I had always wanted to see up close the work solicitors do.
I guess you could say that some of my interest came from the TV shows about American law firms which portray lawyers as glamorous "defenders of justice" whose lives were always filled with danger and excitement. But of course it is a lot different from these shows. During my week of work experience I learned so much about being a lawyer, not only that but I learnt about the various different sectors in a law firm and how they function on a daily basis. I learnt a substantial amount about the different types of company (LTD,PLC,ULC, etc.), the roles of the director and about employment and commercial law. I completed a memorandum and all the written assignments that their internship program had for us. After my eventful week of daily office work and a trip to the Four Courts. (Where I got to listen to a barrister explain her work and sit in for a real court case!) I can say for certain that I would be interested in a career in the legal sector, overall it was a fantastic week and I found the atmosphere of the law firm very appealing. |
